Residents enjoy eating out at restaurants three to four times per month for breakfast or lunch. On a monthly basis our gentlemen residents meet in the Camp Hill Room for their “Just for Men” club. They discuss sports, past work experiences, war stories and many more topics. Many of our residents were accustomed to having social parties at their homes. We continue that tradition here at The Woods, with our “Social Hours.” Once a month an administrative employee serves non-alcoholic drinks to the Resident's in our lobby before dinner. Transportation is a large part of resident life and here at The Woods. We take bi-weekly trips to grocery stores and monthly trips to restaurants and local theatres. During the springtime residents enjoy trips to local orchards and nurseries and in the fall there is nothing better than a long ride through the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside. The residents enjoy seminars from local businesses on topics such as: Medicare drug discount information, physical therapy (neck and back pain), hearing tests, hearing aid cleaning & repairs and “Water Works” keeping hydrated. Programs are available for veterans through the Cumberland County Veterans Affairs office. The Woods Classic and Antique automobile show is a favorite of our residents. What started in 2000 as an evening of fun for the residents to enjoy a few local antique cars has turned into an all day event with over 15 antique and classic cars. The residents enjoy a picnic with food prepared by our Administrator, and fun events organized for friends and family. The Annual Woods Family and Resident Picnic gives residents and their families a chance to talk and get to know one another. Our staff prepares wonderful food for the residents and our activities department has fun games for those of all ages. The Woods Holiday Happening is by far our most attended event. Each year around Christmas, families of residents bring a dozen cookies for everyone to exchange and share recipes, sing-a-long with carolers, and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. This evening is filled with smiling faces, full stomachs and Christmas cheer.
Once a month we make special outings to local attractions such as: Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, Allenberry Playhouse & Dinner Theatre, local orchards, spring and fall foliage trips and The Whitaker Center.
